CRAIG’S RUNNING THE MARATHON DES SABLES
Often touted as ‘The toughest footrace on earth’, it is an epic and, for many, life-changing undertaking. Run over seven days, the race consists of six stages and a rest day, with the distances ranging from 21km-82km per day for a total of over 250km.

CRAIG’S ROLLERCOASTER JOURNEY
The lead up to this challenge has been quite extraordinary. As many of you will know Craig has been running for many years and not a stranger to running Marathons. If they weren’t challenging enough he decided that the Marathon Des Sables (MDS) would be on his “Bucket List” for his 50th Birthday.
Ahead of the Marathon Des Sables (MDS) Craig trained for over 9 months running over 70 miles a week and even due to train in Lanzarote. Unfortunately the global pandemic stuck and that went on hold but he continued to train here in Norfolk, raising his weekly mileage to 120.
With training all going well Craig was, earlier this year, stuck down with flu and during this time they checked his heart and the ECG found an irregularity. Following 2 more tests he was given the all clear. Phew!
Craig has continued to train hard and even with another minor setback of a ruptured tendon is back to fitness now and clocking up over 50 miles running and 20 miles walking every week. For those of you that know Craig you will be fully aware that he never quits and the Marathon Des Sables (MDS) is the ultimate challenge.
COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS
This year’s race has been moved from the Spring and now 1st – 11th October in Southern Morocco in the Sahara Desert and he will be sweating it out with around 1,000 others.
He’s raising money for 3 great charities that are important to him. The Feed, Holt Youth Project and Hallswood Animal Sanctuary.
Craig said, “Having got involved with these amazing charities and seeing with our own eyes the brilliant work they are doing I am determined to help make a difference to them.
Running the Marathon Des Sables (MDS) feels very important to me and all the Rock Solid team and we would be incredibly grateful for any amount that our friends, clients and contacts could spare. Even if it’s just a couple of quid – it will all go towards helping these amazing charities.
Many thanks – Craig Bowen – Jones
